An overview of Querétaro businesses that accept Bitcoin, from sporting goods stores to recreation centers, and what this means for those holding digital capital.
The list of businesses that accept Bitcoin in Querétaro is still short compared to that of other cities in the country, but it exists and is worth knowing if you already have crypto assets and are looking to use them in everyday life.
One of the most cited cases is Fama Sport, a sporting goods store that, in addition to traditional payment methods, allows you to settle your purchase with Bitcoin. It's a small but real example of a local business that decided to add this option at checkout.
Another documented record corresponds to recreational spaces in the city. It has been reported that an Olympic pool inside the Centro Deportivo Bicentenario, on Avenida San Miguel, accepts crypto payments for access to its facilities. Along the same lines, an 18-hole golf course located on the Carretera Libre a Celaya, in the Residencial Balvanera, also joined this form of payment. Added to this is a nutrition content site that offers a recipe collection payable in crypto, which confirms that adoption in Querétaro is not limited to large physical stores, but also reaches niche digital businesses.
At the level of larger commercial infrastructure, it has been announced that Paseo Querétaro, one of the shopping centers in the Explanada corridor, is part of a group of malls where certain stores will begin accepting crypto payments, following the same scheme applied at Explanada Puebla, Explanada Pachuca, and Forum Cuernavaca. This does not mean that the entire mall operates with crypto, but rather that some commercial spaces within it do.
Most of these businesses operate through the infrastructure of exchanges like Bitso, which since late 2020 has maintained a map of businesses in Mexico that accept this type of payment and which at one point located close to 150 establishments across the country. The mechanism is simple in theory: the business shows a QR code, the customer pays from their digital wallet, and the transaction is confirmed within minutes. In practice, availability depends on the business keeping that option active and on the user having a wallet with sufficient funds at the time of payment.
It's worth being realistic about the size of this ecosystem. There is not yet a commercial zone in Querétaro where payment in Bitcoin predominates, and most of the businesses that accept it do so as an additional option, not as their main method. Many of these records come from mappings done a few years ago, so before going to a specific place it's advisable to confirm directly with the business whether the option is still available, since crypto acceptance can change without notice.
For those living in Querétaro who have Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies saved, this guide serves more as a map of possibilities than as a promise of unlimited use. Spending crypto directly at a local business is still the exception, not the rule. That's why, if your goal is to convert that digital capital into something tangible —whether it's an everyday expense, an experience, or later, a higher-value asset like real estate—, it's useful to think of two complementary routes: using crypto where it's already directly accepted, and converting to pesos when the business or asset you're interested in doesn't yet offer that option. Neither route is automatically better; it depends on what you need that money for in the short term and how comfortable you feel with the asset's volatility while you decide when and on what to use it.
